trusting the unknown

"In the unexpected, we find the deep stillness. In the unrehearsed, we come ablaze."

–Mark Nepo

At the very outset of this project, there has been a deliberate stepping away from the known ... a conscious side-stepping from a more western approach that is framed in comprehension. From her outset uncertainty has not only been embraced, but even welcomed. Why?

Getting lost or experiencing the unrehearsed allows for the opportunity to connect to something beyond safety, beyond the security of the known. It ignites a challenge within which remains otherwise dormant; a shake-up of a sleep-state. Coming ablaze in not-knowing is not a fear, but rather an embodied recognition of remembrance of more ancient ways of knowing.

It is what performance art is for me.

Trusting the unfolding of the unknown is sacred. It is a reliance not on the ego-self, not on conscious navigation, not on surface memory. It's connection, rather, is rooted in the spiritual ... in trusting that our ancestors are present in guiding us ... in the deep-knowing that Source is forever present. And it is our response and trust to this unseen world, a deep stillness within is created.

Having collectively created the structure of the wall this week, we are in the process of communally creating a place of stillness, of respect, even sacredness.
